Pharmacy - Multi Facility

  • Encables S/36 COBOL to communicate with a document managment system via web services.
  • Technologies: Java, RPG and web services.

World Wide Financial Institution:

Created programs and modified existing programs to create the new ARS web site for use by company personel and Banking Institutions.  This would allow everything to be entered via a website, but use the AS/400 as the data storing, data reporting to the business and banking personel and IRS reporting for the banking institutions.  Modified the home grown implementer program to allow for RPG IV coded programs to be installed.  All new prograrms were coded in RPG IV.  Coded interfaces between the JAVA layer and the AS/400.  Coded trigger programs to record data changes.  Additional  responsibles included maintaining the existing system while the new development was being done.  Created report programs that generated data files for Crystal Reports to use.

Food Distribution:

Created new programs in RPG IV that allow for order processes between what is called an Upstream Distribution Center and a Downstream Distribution Center.  Some items are kept in a central Distribution Center (the Upstream DC) that many other distribution centers (the Downstream DC) can access.  This way, the slower moving items are kept in one distribution center (the Upstream DC) instead of taking up space in many distribution centers.

I created programs and modified existing programs to create the new ARS web site for use by WKFS Personnel and Banking Institutions.  This would allow everything to be entered via a website, but use the AS/400 as the data storing, data reporting to the WKFS and banking personnel and IRS reporting for the banking institutions.  I also modified the home grown implementer program to allow for RPG IV coded programs to be installed.  All new prograrms were coded in RPG IV.  Coded interfaces between the JAVA layer and the AS/400.  Coded trigger programs to record data changes.  I also was responsible for maintaining the existing system while the new development was being done.  Created report programs that generated data files for Crystal Reports to use.

Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.....

As your business grows and technology progresses the number one question all IBM customers have is ......What do we do with all this 'old' code?  It works great, do we need to get rid of it all?

CCSI helps merge the new technology with the tried and true business applications that your business to where it is today.  Strategic planning, a working understanding of business/IT relationship and over 35 years in the business allows us to help with the strategic direction your company craves!

CCSI specializes in helping you increase your System i and AS/400 Operational Performance. Our services are centered on reducing your IT costs and increasing your capability to utilize your resources.

- What is your next step? -

"How does it all work together?"

"What can we keep and what should we replace?"

"Can we use GUI applications and new technology with our 'legacy' systems?"

These are all quotes we have heard and are able to answer for our clients.  Every company is different and there is never going to be a 'silver bullet'.  However, there are options that improve business continuity, reduce Risk and ensure success!

Most companies benefiting from the IBM AS/400 or iSeries have thousands, if not millions, of lines of RPG code ranging from RPG II through RPG Free and ILE (some even have some COBOL).  Throwing away that code or scrapping entire systems is just not fiscally responsible.  Good planning, great execution and knowing what the options are can get your company where it needs to be!

*Capitalizing on existing investments is what CCSI's project teams excel in!
